双桂堂他建于清顺治十八年（1661年），它的创始人是清朝名僧破山禅师，该寺因破山法师在寺内植双株桂树而得名“双桂堂”。双桂堂法系为禅宗，破山乃承宁波天童寺密云禅师之法，号为“临济正宗第三十六代祖师”。与石柱县银杏堂是 “ 姊妹建筑 ”
